IRANIAN YOUNG CINEMA SOCIETY


The Iranian Young Cinema Society (IYCS)-deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in cinema and audio-visual affairs, as one of the most reliable producers of short films in Iran, has pioneered the training, production and presentation of short films with a 20-year-plus respective background.
The IYCS trains about 6000 art students in filmmaking and photography all across its 52 offices throughout the country as it produces around 1000 films – fiction, documentary, animation and experimental– on an annual basis. Its annual products have found their way into film festivals and markets at home and abroad, many of which have made it to the famous international film festivals , including Tampere, Pusan, Manchester, Clermont-Ferrand, Oberhausen, Hamburg, Thessaloniki, Drama, Cinema Jove, Cork, Cracow, Festival of Nations,…securing valuable prizes.
These films have also won the IYSC profits, being screened on numerous channels such as ZDF, SBS, arte, Channel 4 (UK), YLE, etc in addition to domestic TV channels.
The society has been the sole official representative of Iran in the "Union Internationale du Cinema"(UNICA) from 1990 and the "International Sort Film Conference" (USFC) since 2000.
IYCS, that annually takes charge of the Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) as one of the world's reliable short film festival, is determined to tap into unlocked indigenous, art and cultural potential of the Iranian youths and do what it takes to organize and streamline production and distribution of short films country-wide. To that end, the IYCS, also holds film screening programs and photo exhibitions as well as Regional and Prayers festivals.
The Iranian Young Cinema Society officially announced a proposal to form the "Union for Short Filmmakers of the Muslim Countries" (USFMC). Membering 17 Muslim nations from across the world including Lebanon, Qatar, Sudan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Turkey, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and Iran the first conference of the USFMC was held in August/ 2007 in Tehran. A-week- long conference finished while the USFMC article of association was ratified, Tehran named the USFMC permanent seat and the central committee members were elected as follows:
1. Secretary General: Nasser Ali Bakideh/ Managing Director of IYCS/Iran
2. Deputy Secretary General: Mustafa Ibrahim Mohamed/ Director General of ZIRYAB Productions/ Sudan
3. Head of International Affairs: Lassaad Ben Nouri Jamoussi/ Sfax University Professor in Cinema/ Tunisia
4. Treasurer: Abdul Latif Ahmadi/ Head of Afghan Film/ Afghanistan
5. Member: Alovuddin Abdulloev/ Member of Cinema House/ Tajikistan
6. Member: Maheen Zia/ Founding member and organizer of Karafilm Festival/ Pakistan
7. Member: Ali Daher/ Manager of Lebanese Committee for Art/ Lebanon
The USFMC has been established to mainly achieve the goals below: to help centers and groups in the Muslim countries involved in short filmmaking get familiar; to introduce ways and culture of short filmmaking; to offer academic means of movie making; to exchange information and experience in filmmaking training; to jointly produce short films; to establish the USFMC short film central archive, to pave the way of holding the Islam World short film festival, to explore and identify ways to present and distribute film products; and to market films at an international level.
